We are fully embracing life here in Hattiesburg, and that includes making history! Last week was the first ever Mardi Gras parade in Hattiesburg, and we were right in the middle of it.
We began our week with a taste of this goodness. In the past we have tried to make our own king cakes, but there's just no contest. A local bakery here in town makes a really great one.
One of Carter's friends from school found us in the crowd, and we enjoyed watching the parade with him and his family.
I'm guessing none of us knew David was taking a picture, but here's most of our crowd. Miss Tina and Meredith joined in on our fun, too. How thankful we were for two extra sets of eyes in the big crowd.
Throw me some beads! The children had so much fun!
Some of the floats were really beautifully decorated. They threw beads, Frisbees, tshirts, toys, candy, and flowers.
Story was a good sport despite the late hour and our failure to eat supper beforehand. Our original plan was to leave early, eat supper somewhere on Hardy Street, and watch the parade afterwards. However, we know how plans often go. The road was blocked off early, so we scrambled to park and find a place to sit. We heard there were 12,000+ people there for the first parade. Not bad for the first time!
David really racked up on some great beads! He gave me this one to hang up in our room. What a fun night and memory for our little family!
